At that time it was all about enjoying the Early Access / Game Preview vibes, much like the phenom that is Palworld is doing Phantom Abyss Speedrun now. Phantom Abyss requested you to run a gauntlet though, as fast as you could. We descended into Phantom Abyss and quite enjoyed what was on offer.
The cursed obsidian whip is probably more suited for endgame dungeons where there are fewer phantoms left to compete with.
